This drawing was commissioned for a friend in Northern N.S.W. Many artists paint platypuses under water with their eyes open when in fact they are shut. This creature has evolved a highly sensory duck-like bill, enabling it to locate its prey in turbid water without the need of sight.
I drew its mate sunning itself in full view but equally wary of aerial predators, with its eyes open.
