A Breach of Etiquette – Original Drawing in Graphite and coloured Pencils

Ram Shearing – North Tuppal Station. In the well-run big shearing sheds of yesteryear, where sheep were dragged from the catching pens and not lifted (Tom Roberts – Shearing The Rams), sheepdogs were banned from entering the shed. Experienced ‘penner-uppers’ worked just as effectively with the measured and timely use of a tin dog or rattle, and no shearer wanted a dog upsetting his sheep, particularly a cumbersome ram!
However as in this case, sometimes there were exceptions to the rule and a breach was momentarily solved with a little discretion and tolerance, enforced perhaps with a few harsh but whispered words.

‘The Boss’, the master of the charming dog, was in the background quietly and critically observing the standard of workmanship along the board!!
